May 11: Penryn's Kernick Road Footbridge, locally known as the 'Blue Bridge' has had a makeover. CORMAC were the projects main contractors and Metalcraft, along with Blast Clean & Coatings Ltd undertook the refurbishment. The 38 m /125 ft bridge, weighing over 22 tonnes was removed from site for 6 weeks for a full overhaul. Metalcraft stripped the bridge, made repairs and alterations to the main structure, replaced all galvanized side and roof panels and replaced fixings throughout before re-installation. The bridge was back in position on the first of three date options, bringing the project in two weeks ahead of schedule and under budget.
